Despite Everything, Donald Trump Voters Still Support Him

A focus group of Trump supporters, on CBS This Morning with Frank Luntz, made it quite clear that their support of President Trump has not waned at all.

The group of 13 men and seven women, all of whom voted for Trump in November, were asked a range of questions about their thoughts on the Russian investigation, and Trump’s agenda, to which their responses were primarily positive.

Mr. Luntz specifically asked them to describe President Trump with one word or phrase. These were some of the answers:

Honest. Determined. Effective. True. Strong. Productive. Tough SOB. Very authentic.

Not a negative comment in the lot.

Luntz then asked how many of them loved the tweeting, to which about 80% said they did. Now while, it is true that some were parroting phrases about President Trump’s successes – one gentleman said he’s done more than Obama has done in his first 100 days – the responses clearly showed that those who supported President Trump are nowhere near fleeing him.

They specifically referenced his selection of Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court as proof of his “kept promises.” As to his failure to get legislation through, like Obamacare repeal, they placed the blame squarely on the shoulders of the Republican legislature, which is wear the bulk of it belongs.

In the roundtable discussion afterward, Mr. Luntz said the thing that surprised him the most about this discussion was when he showed the Trump supporters the video of President Trump appearing to push past the Montenegro Prime Minister.

According to Luntz, they love it because,

to  them it was the White House, it was the President, asserting his rightful role as leader of the free world. And I’m thinking, oh my God, this is one of the most embarrassing moments. They don’t see it that way.

The CBS panel seemed truly shocked at Luntz’s revelation:

His [Trump’s] base is significant. It is small, but significant, and it isn’t weakening.

Their analysis is that he cannot govern with just his base behind him, and perhaps they are right, but the lack of anything being done is not being put on the President, rather, it’s being laid at the feet of Republicans, as well as the Democrats.
