Democrat Representative Introduces Legislation That Would Allow Obama, Biden, and Clinton to Help Decide the Fitness of Trump to Be President

One House Democrat sees a “fatal flaw” in the 25th Amendment to the Constitution, and this week he introduced legislation that would literally allow Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and Bill Clinton the opportunity to decide whether or not Donald Trump is fit for office.

Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) presented a bill this week that would empower former presidents and vice presidents of both parties, so both Bushes and their VP’s would also be included in this panel, would determine the sitting president’s fitness for office, The Hill reported.

Currently, the 25th Amendment allows for the vice president along with a majority of “the principal officers of the executive departments,” the Cabinet members, to jointly declare the president unfit to lead. This kind of scenario has been played out in movies and television dramas.

What many may not know is that there is also an alternative the amendment lays out, which says Congress may approve some “other body” to make such a declaration.

In Blumenauer’s mind that “other body” should be President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence’s predecessors.

“It is hard to imagine a better group to work with the vice president to examine whether the president is able to discharge the duties of the office,” Blumenauer said in a statement. “When there are questions about the president’s ability to fulfill his or her constitutional responsibilities, it is in the country’s best interest to have a mechanism in place that works effectively.”

How would one got about keeping partisanship out of this? I mean Obama has had many of his executive orders overturned by Trump. Would he see that behavior as making him unfit? And how exactly does Joe Biden, proverbial court jester, get to determine anyone’s fitness? And why should Bill Clinton, a man who was formally impeached by the House of Representatives be able to declare anyone unfit for the job?

Let us not forget this grand inquisition would include Al Gore, professional climate change scam artist, who has made millions of dollars with his apocalyptic tales of imminent doom. Considering Trump’s commitment to stop the ridiculous and ruinous climate change inspired policies of Barack Obama, how exactly would Al Gore be able to remain unbiased in casting dispersions?

Sadly, Blumenaur remains silent on those questions. For him, they only need have already held the office to decide the fate of the current officeholder.

Blumenauer, asserts that a “fatal flaw” in the 25th Amendment is that the measure would not be effective if an unstable president simply fired his Cabinet members, suggesting that the department heads could feel pressured to stand by the president, even if they felt he or she was unable to serve.

“Because the Cabinet can be fired by the president,” Blumenauer argued, “there is a natural bias that would make them reluctant to acknowledge the president’s inability to serve.”

But there wouldn’t be any bias coming from the likes of Obama and Clinton regarding Trump? Sure.

Democrats are always the most fun when they lose elections. Thankfully this bill doesn’t have a prayer of getting heard on the floor.
