Rep. Debbie Lesko Will Challenge Sen. Rick Murphy in AZGOP Primary
Representative Debbie Lesko announces she will run for Arizona State Senate in Legislative District 21
PHOENIX – Representative Debbie Lesko has announced that she will seek election to the Arizona State Senate in Legislative District 21.
“Last week I filed to run for the Legislative District 21 state senate seat for the 2014 election. Due to adverse circumstances surrounding our current senator, Rick Murphy, many individuals from within and outside of LD21 have asked and encouraged me to run for the Senate seat instead of running for re-election for my current House seat.
If innocent, I wish Rick well in his ongoing court battle to regain custody of his children from Child Protective Services and in his efforts to reconcile his marriage. However I can not ignore the growing concern voiced by people in our district that Rick’s personal struggles may not only distract him from his job, but may be used by others against him in an election campaign.
After much thought and prayer I have decided that running for the Senate is in the best interest of the people in my district. I have represented the people in our district well over the last 5 years and I plan to continue my commitment to them in the future,” said Lesko.
“I am pleased that Debbie Lesko has decided to run for state senate. She has represented our district well in the House and I am confident she will represent us well in the Senate.” said Kevin Payne, LD21 Republican Chairman.
