The Obama Political Culture Has Now Infected the Pentagon
An organization’s culture tends to flow down from the top. In the federal government’s Executive Branch, that’s the president. And the Obama culture of Chicago-style political thuggery has blossomed at the IRS, the Park Service, and now the Pentagon itself.
We’ve all seen how IRS agents harassed and intimidated conservative political organizations. And more recently we’ve seen federal Park Service employees intimidate innocent tourists as they attempt to visit national parks and monuments.
Where do federal employees get their direction to engage in this shameful behavior? Directly from the White House? No, that’s unlikely. The political operatives that the president has put in authority don’t need to be told what to do. They already know. That’s why he chose them.
Now, in a new low even for Obama’s minions, somebody at the Pentagon thought he was doing the president’s bidding when death benefits were denied to relatives of veterans who died during the “shutdown.” (See the 45-second video above.)
This is so callous and so outrageous that even some of Obama’s sycophantic followers and pundits are breaking ranks with him. Of course Obama’s apologists tell us it was all the mistake of some nameless lawyers, just as it was the fault of those “rogue Cincinnatti agents” in the case of the IRS scandal.
No, almost surely, Obama’s political operatives were doing what they thought they were supposed to do. Hoping to increase the president’s leverage in budget negotiations, they chose to cause “maximum pain” to grieving families of veterans who gave their lives for us. That is both vile and disgusting.
Has Obama no decency? No sense of shame at all? What comes next?
Sadly, Obama’s Chicago-style political thuggery has now infected even the Pentagon, and the part that has surfaced is likely just the tip of the iceberg. It will take years to disinfect the Pentagon, even when we get a better president.
