Inspiring Speech from Rafael Cruz, Father of Sen. Ted Cruz

| July 7 2013
David Leeper

At the FreedomWorks Free the People event on July 6, Mr. Rafael Cruz, father of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), delivered this inspiring speech on his personal history, surviving Fidel Castro’s communist regime and coming to the land of opportunity and freedom.

Like Obama, Castro started as a “hope and change” leader, but gradually destroyed all freedom and personal initiative in Cuba.   Is that where Obama’s “hope and change” is taking us?  Rafael Cruz talks about the many parallels and the dangers for America he sees ahead.

See also WesternFreePress.com interviews and presentations by other survivors of socialism and communism. Most native-born Americans take freedom for granted.  These true Americans, whose citizenship was earned through personal risk and hard work, know how easily those freedoms can be worn away.

Americans feel helpless and they are acting helpless.  Americans do not have the hunger to stand up to this regime.  They have never lived in oppression therefore feel confident it can not happen here, wake up people it is here and happening faster than you can imagine.  There will be no free nation for a next generation.  Stand Up for your American Freedom.

Many of us came to the land of hope and dreams, where everything was possible  with hard work and perseverance We came to enhance not to change, to share not to take . Freedom is not free, many have died to make sure I am free, I will keep telling the story so their sacrifice is not in vain

I have never heard of the ALRA.  I'll be checking them out also.  I agree the RNC has let us down and is not listening to us.   While I support the College Republicans, I will not be giving to the RNC at this time.  I hope they hear what this man is saying.  Check out E W Jackson also.  Two great men.     Thanks Carole, hope to see you soon.

Yet this example, this relevant and significant contributor to American exceptionalism, and anyone with like principle beliefs, in any immigration discussion, is in essence intentionally ignored by the media majority.

As the media and Left will take comfort in bastardizing and diminishing the value of an immigrant taking the appropriate steps to become an American citizen, the enthusiasm of we like minded Latinos will not be deterred.

The intrinsic spirituality of becoming, being, recognizing and giving thanks for one's citizenship is a disrupt-ful thing that media will not allow the less informed to experience and understand.

@MB Patriot I believe we will stand before it is too late. Freedom has often had to rely on a small Remnant for her defense.

@muggs Thank you @muggs ... As a matter of fact, one of our board members is a young Latino college Republican who attends ASU. Look forward to seeing your input at our Facebook. Please spread the word.

Right-on! I hope there are many more like you and Rafael Cruz out there!

If more than half of Latino Americans felt as you do, the Democrats would be insisting on border security and the "rule of law" on immigration.

And you're right ... we'll hear nothing of the Cruz speech on any of the mainstream media (not even Fox, so far as I can tell).  It doesn't fit their narrative.

@dleeper47 It is sadly indicative of the power of the media majority. Including Fox News and the likes of Geraldo Rivera at the helm of Fox Latino News.

Nonetheless, it has to continue to be an effort of relentlessly pounding away at our counterpart and confronting the deceit with bombardments of truth. A message and statement only Right leaning Latinos can deliver effectively. There is nothing in the GOP/RNC assets that will prove to be comparable.

@rofomoreno@Maria Guzman@dleeper47 Yes. The war of ideas is winnable. Using new media, it is definitely possible for us (conservative of all stripes) to reclaim control of the narrative from the left. And may I add, as the managing editor of Western Free Press, that in addition to being a forum for discussion and a source of information, we would be happy to serve in other ways a developing movement of conservative Hispanics. Just let us know how we can help and we'll talk!

@Maria Guzman @dleeper47 @rofomoreno Con su permiso, Maria Guzman, you've asked a very relevant question. To a degree, the fact that we Conservative Latinos are being ignored could be considered evidence that they (the Left) know we are out here in significant enough numbers. Quite like the experiences of our Conservative Black brothers and sisters. Tho' they will not admit, we are recognized as formidable threat.

What is more encouraging (in my opinion) is the fact that some of the GOP/RNC leadership are also aware of our presence and are a bumbling about trying to figure out how to deal with our obvious Conservative leanings (in many instances far more Right leaning than so many of them).

Leading up to the 2008 elections, out of concern for what I was witnessing with national pandering to Latinos/Hispanics through the dividing issue of illegal immigration, I spent a lot of time at various Hispanic Republican sites to research if anyone of them might share the same concerns.

At 'The Americano', Newt Gingrich's Hispanic outreach site, I discovered an encouraging amount of like minded Conservative Latino writers sharing many of my sentiments. It was a welcoming place to post comments as a Conservative.

After McCain's loss, The Americano began to make a noticeable Left turn, bringing in more Moderate and Left leaning writers (obviously a new Newt strategy). Like minded commenters followed in suit and heated online debates began daily in the comment box, Latino vs Latino, primarily over illegal immigration. I am proud to say I was a constant thorn in the side many of their new Left leaning writers, including Latino professors, attorneys, columnists and political activists. By 2012, The Americano all but closed up shop as they made their site far more commenter restrictive. I firmly believe that dissenters like myself had a lot to do with their change in format. That was clear evidence to me that Latinos/Hispanics of Conservative thought made a direct impact on Left leaning Republicanism.

So my point here, Maria Guzman, is to use the social media and post your opinions far and wide. Particularly at places such as here at Western Free Press. Facebook is a great place to engage. Believe me there are a lot more Conservative Latino friendly places out there than the powers that be would care to admit. The more input you give, the more eyes and minds that will take notice.Let everyone know that you are a Right leaning Latina. Let them know of your legitimate concerns. And by all means, as in the example of Señor Cruz, let them know that you are steadfast and unwavering in what you believe to be the right course for America. Make it known that they do not speak for you. Insist that they learn to speak your language.

@rofomoreno Thank you sir ... I will check that out ... I have certainly heard of ALRA.  If you're annoying the Left, you must be on the right track!

@dleeper47 Glad you asked. My favorite ...the one of which I am a board member; The Arizona Latino Republican Association (ALRA) here in Phoenix, with a rousing chapter in Tucson and requests to bring our message to other parts of the state. We are a group of Latinos from varied Latino/Hispanicancestry, faiths and professions - truly grassroots. And yes, we are very much of the same mindset. We do tend to aggravate the Latino Left as well as the Left-ly influenced Repubs on a regular basis.

Please check us out at Facebook.

Right on again -- in fact, I've stopped all contributions to the RNC in favor of contributions to organizations like Star Parker's CURE. Are there comparable Latino groups?  Which one is your favorite?

Keep on fighting -- for *all* of us!

@dleeper47 A follow up sir; In spite of what is presented from the media majority, I am absolutely confident that there are overwhelming numbers of like minded Conservative Latinos across the country. Give it time. The Lib-Prog foundation will be shaken to it's core.
