John McCain Claims Immigration Bill Triggers are “Iron-Clad”
In this one-minute video clip, John McCain proclaims that Senate Immigration Bill S.744 has triggers that are “iron-clad”, and anyone disagrees must “have a problem” with bringing 11 million people “out of the shadows.”
If Sen. McCain has read this bill, he knows full well that the “triggers” are loaded with waivers and exceptions that can be granted individually or en masse by the Secretary of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano, at her sole discretion. My favorites are on pages 857-858 of the bill (full text at this link.) In particular, clause (ii) on page 858 says that 10 years after bill enactment, if any litigation has slowed deployment, the Sec’y of Homeland Security shall accept applications for permanent status no matter how weak the border enforcement effort has been.
Can John McCain explain how that waiver power is consistent with “iron-clad” triggers? Or is it being disrespectful for We-the-People to ask such questions of him?
