The Benghazi Betrayal — Panetta Had Time for Rescue but “Stood Down” Instead

The Benghazi Four were betrayed. They called for help on September 11 but were left to die instead. Since then, Obama’s craven political appointees have tried to cover their backsides, and his, by lying about the time and resources needed to respond.

In the 3-minute May 11 clip below, former Navy Seal Christopher Mark Heben and Col. David Hunt (Ret.) explain how Alert-30 and Alert-60 forces could have been on-site in Benghazi within about 3 hours. Those forces train for missions like Benghazi, and do not, as Leon Panetta has implied, need full intelligence information before deploying.

There was no way Panetta and his politically correct officers could have known at the outset how much time would be needed to effect a rescue.  Lives were at stake. As a precaution, those Alert forces should have been on their way in less than 1 hour after the first distress call. If warranted, they could been recalled at any time. And in any event, they could have provided the missing “intelligence” that Panetta claims had tied his hands.

If Panetta’s family were to call 911 for emergency help, and no one ever came, would he accept any rationalization for failure from the police or fire departments?

Absolutely correct. What if the police and fire dept, the first responders at the Twin Towers, 9/11/01, had waited or needed to get the job done. They knew their jobs as those in the military, the seals more than only body, know there jobs. All those brave heroes of 9/11 ran into and up the stairwells to hell, knowing what had to be done, and did it. There command set up a command center, and they did what came naturally to them, they are trained for this and they were tireless. Do you realize NY prepared up to 80 000 body bags! They came from all over, friends of mine too, within an hour to two, had saved in the 10's of thousands, thanks to our finest. Can you imagine if the Pres, Mayor, Cheifs, Governer would of given a stand down order. Never a thought, never would have happened! So I blame Hillary, Panetta and so many others for the whole of Benghazi, but anyway you turn, we could have been there, especially not knowing how long this would go on for, hous, days, who knew, and the only one who could give such an order is OBAMA! Up until this past week, I had plenty of moments blaming Panetta and certain military for ordering stand down, but after seeing. 60 minutes last week wit Jessica Buchanan(she was held hostage in Africa for 3months, and then Seal Team 6 came in and rescued her, 90 od days later! PERFECTION, AS UBL KILL, I saw the same event the other night on Hannity, it was a different perspective Hannity played up the Seals, 60 minutes gave tribute to the POTUS, perfect timing, in the middle of 3 scandals. Towards the end of both shows they showed BO telling Panetta good job at the end of his State Of The Union address. Know one knew why, it was a mission kep secret and rightfully so. My take/ after seeing BO and Panette interact right there in front of the whole world, only BO could and would have issued the THIS STAND DOWN ORDER!

Exactly my feeling.  All of our crack military "special" teams train and train and train for exactly this scenario.  Seldom in life and death situations would the military have a complete picture of what's happening in real time on the ground.  The "special forces" train for any and all kinds of contingencies.  Did the SEALS know what would face them in Bin Laden's lair?

I'd trade Panetta and all the CYA politicians in his cadre for just one Marine, Seal, or Ranger. The latter willingly risk their lives. The former won't even put their lousy, stinking polticial careers at risk.

I am posting this comment from a retired Lt. Col in the US Army.

Gen Dempsey is complicit along with Panetta in not ordering a rescue attempt.  Not launching a rescue attempt due to lack of intelligence is bogus.  If the Army in Vietnam had done that the casualty toll would have been double.  The current Soldier's Creed contains 13 statements, two of which are:  "I will never leave a fallen comrade" and "I stand ready to deploy, engage, and destroy the enemies of the United States of America in close combat."  Maybe Gen Dempsey needs to reread the Soldier's Creed.

@sleepergirl @Econ101 The powers that be didn't want to save Stevens and the others. They didn't offer them the protection they needed in the first place, and then they sacrificed them to cover for that fact. Monstrous.

WesternFreePress: And politically, it was actually moronic for them to risk abandoning Americans under attack.  But these days I guess that's a Washington/Chicago hack's version of political "courage".

Among those hacks I include especially any political generals (Dempsey?) who bear responsibility for ordering the "stand down."  May that decision torture their conscience as long as they live.

@Econ101 Any military personnel who substitute loyalty to Obama for loyalty to their oath have violated their oath.
