Why Your Social Security or Veteran’s Benefits Check May Be Delayed
On January 14, at his press conference, Barack Obama famously declared (video below) that if Republicans don’t approve debt ceiling increases or continuing resolutions as he demands them, Social Security checks and veterans’ benefits will be delayed.
Everybody get that? The first to feel the pain will be old people and veterans. This is rank demagoguery, shamelessly and proudly delivered in his usual condescending style.
Notably, Obama did not mention any of his 479 federal agencies and departments that could face cuts. They will go right on getting paid and growing every year as they have been, while old people and veterans get stiffed. Astounding. See the long list (below) of Obama’s 479 agencies and departments. Among them, can you find one or two that might be closed or curtailed?
I can. But evidently, Barack Obama cannot.
Incredibly, President Obama also implied that the US might not make its debt payments on time. The mere mention that debt service might be disrupted is a grossly irresponsible thing for any government official to say, let alone the president. But Obama did it anyway.
Such is the hubris and reckless disregard for our country that this man has. And after threatening default on the debt, he and his minions have the nerve to reach out and cripple independent credit agencies that downgrade US debt securities? Breathtaking.
There is plenty of tax revenue income coming in every month to pay for Social Security, veterans’ benefits, and debt service, and Obama knows it. Yet he prefers to pose as a helpless victim of Republican behavior. Now who is holding whom hostage?
Make no mistake. If any check or debt payment is delayed, it’s because President Barack Obama has deliberately and unnecessarily chosen to delay it.
That brings up the same old question — namely, is Obama behaving as he is out of ignorance or malice? It might as well be malice, because the results will be about the same either way. But even if it’s ignorance, it’s of a particular kind. As Thomas Sowell has said:
There is innocent ignorance and there is invincible, dogmatic and self-righteous ignorance.
Barack Obama has many remarkable attributes, but surely ‘innocence’ isn’t one of them.
So …
Here are the 479 federal agencies and departments whose budgets and bureaucrats our “compassionate” President puts ahead of Americans receiving Social Security and veterans’ benefits.

sleepergirl Econ101 This is all about messaging. But with the left's control over the media, the culture, the schools, etc., how does the GOP get its message out more effectively. There is a message to combat this, but if it never gets to low-information voters, it doesn't do any good . . . . .

LikeWesternFreePress Econ101 Then it's incumbent on the GOP to hire a PR firm that has a proven track record of formulating the message and coming up with a strategy and tactics of getting the message out, especially to the stakeholders who stand to be frightened by Obama's scare tactics.
I know we are at a major disadvantage with getting the media to cover our message, but let's stop using this as a perpetual (and convenient) excuse for doing NOTHING but wringing our hands.

Likesleepergirl Econ101 I agree; my question is definitely not rhetorical hand-wringing. I want solutions! The PR firm is a good idea! Do they already have one, but it's doing a lousy job?

LikeWesternFreePress Econ101 They don't have one as far as I know. I'm suggesting they ensure that any PR firm they use have a proven track record, not another political consulting firm.

LikeI abhor Obama's deliberate demagoguery on paying these obligations. He has exploited this issue and lied about every opportunity he has had during his first term - and it continues. Unfortunately the American public and especially his low-information voters are too ill-informed to know the difference. I would have hoped that it is the responsibility of the electorate to understand how the government we've chosen to represent us and oversee their responsibilities works - but that's wishful hoping.
Some of the 479 agencies above I find intriguing are Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies, Multifamily Housing Office, Senators on the Web, Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation, Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Interagency Coordinating Committee, Economic Adjustment Office, Office of Juvenile Justice & Delinquency Prevention! Can't we all feel the impact and effectiveness these agencies have had on American life!!!!

LikeNote also how he begins his condescending lecture: "If Congressional Republicans refuse to pay America's bills on time ..."
News Flash! It is the *Executive Branch* that pays the bills. That's YOU, Mr. President. Congress, specifically the House, sets the budget and authorizes the expenditures, but YOU pay the bills. If you pay one bill in preference over another, it is *you* that made the choice.
And this guy lectured Constitutional law at the University of Chicago? Heaven help us.

Likefirst of all who's to be sure he lectured at the UC-secondly,why doesn't anyone
recognize that this President is not who he says he is. Why isn't anyone mentioning
that on 2/15/13 the SCUS is going to be finally hearing a case regarding Obama's
eligibililty. Amazing-when I spoke to an anonymous person at the RNC they said it
isn't unreasonable to say that Obama has never been vetted and that he has a
past that no one wants to investigate except Sheriff Joe and his posse and it is
amazing the info that he has ferreted out about Obama and none of it good. He
definitely is the manchurian candidate and the reason that no one is bringing this
forward is very simple-he is the first black president and everyone knows that there
will be blood in the street if this is brought to the American people. What a shame-
what a scam-Nixon was impeached just for papers-the Dems got rid of him-here
the republicans who are a bunch of feckless cowards (they couldn't even get
the Bengazi coverup right). When it comes out just who this man is,it will be
too late to repair the damage he has done to this once great Republic.
