In Portland mall shooting, CCW holder helped end the killing

It is the inevitable dance we do after mass-shooting events. Everyone reacts in horror. About five minutes later, the left starts calling for gun control. Then the gun rights crowd fights back. Interspersed are the voices saying that no one should be using the tragedy for their own agenda.

The gun control crowd almost always strikes first, and the gun rights crowd almost always reacts. (Occasionally, a gun rights advocate will strike first by noting that in mass shootings stopped by the police, many more people die than in mass shootings stopped by a citizen with a concealed carry permit. But usually, the gun banners go first.)

The media, for its part, is almost always on the gun-banner side. They ignore facts and cherry-pick misleading stats. In shootings stopped by a CCW holder, they either under-cover the fact that a law-abiding citizen saved lives with his or her legal firearm, or they ignore the event entirely. Local news is usually better than national news on the subject, though neither is great.

As our own Greg Conterio pointed out, the gun-banning crowd needs to own the fact that they are responsible for greater numbers of deaths in mass shootings (not to mention rapes, murders, assaults, and property crimes) because they make it more difficult for law-abiding citizens to carry weapons and use them to mitigate or prevent crimes. They will never admit it, but the stats are clear. They may believe they are doing good by trying to ban guns, but—just as with all the other policies about which the left “means well”—they cause far more harm than any good they do.

Yet another example is found in the Portland mall shooting. A CCW holder took aim at the shooter. The shooter saw this and took his own life. Instead of 18 people dying (the average when police end a mass shooting), two did (the average when a CCW holder ends a mass shooting). More gun laws won’t prevent killers from getting guns (or bombs, knives, baseball bats, cars, or anything else that can be used as a weapon). All they do is stop people like this from ending crimes before they get worse.

Found this news report. Notice it did not become breaking news on CNN and was hardly mentioned other places. This is how the media lies by omission. Our “news” is nothing more than propaganda.
