Someone pay for my cough drops!
The fact that the Democrats managed to turn the Sandra Fluke-contraception debacle into a winning argument for reelection has to be one of the most horrifying things to happen in a long time. What we conservatives thought was an insane joke—the idea that one human being should be made to pay for another human being’s birth control—is now apparently a fundamental human right. Not only is it yet another entitlement that the left has created out of whole cloth, but, as usual, the GOP is now in the position of being the giant blue meanies denying people their “rights.”
This isn’t just about poor marketing by the GOP and pandemic media bias, though those are factors. This is also about an electorate a large swath of which is completely in the tank for statism. They march around intoning about “rights,” and then they vote to have ACTUAL human rights violated in their endless quest to force some people to pay for other people’s stuff.
Until we can figure out a way to fix this situation, the least we can do is laugh about it.
