The Hope and the Change: “We all got fooled”
“He promised us change; we all got fooled.”
So says one of the 40 Obama voters whose stories and opinions are chronicled in Citizens United’s latest film, “The Hope and the Change.”
The gut-wrenching thing about this preview is hearing the despair and the sense of hopelessness: they’re not seeing things get any better, and can’t imagine things getting any better any time soon. As people who voted for Obama last time, one has to assume that they are not steeped in conservative and libertarian political and economic theory. Consequently, they’re not aware of how quickly things can get better if we apply the right principles. But they do know that Obama is the god that failed, and that is an excellent start. No doubt they have friends and family who feel the same.
The last voice on the preview asks, “Can we go through another four years of this?”
Good question. Let us hope we do not find out.
