Governor Jan Brewer Endorses Gabriela Saucedo Mercer for Congress
A major endorsement has been issued for Arizona Congressional Candidate Gabriela Saucedo Mercer. Governor Jan Brewer released the following statement supporting Saucedo Mercer for Congress:
“Southern Arizona has a fantastic opportunity this fall to send someone to Congress who will always support our state and fight for quality jobs, affordable energy and a secure border. That candidate is Gabriela Saucedo Mercer. While her incumbent opponent bows to unions and special interests, I’m proud to support Gabriela because I know she’ll always put Arizona first.”
The following response to the Governor’s endorsement was released by Gabriela Saucedo Mercer:
“It is truly an honor and privilege to have Governor Jan Brewer’s support of my congressional campaign. Throughout her public service, Governor Brewer has made the interests of Arizonans a priority. Governor Brewer has also led our state through economic hardship, remained resolute in securing our border, held the federal government accountable in its duty to protect our country, and she has inspired our state through her faith and strength of character in challenging times. I am grateful for her endorsement and for her leadership of the great state of Arizona.”
Gabriela Saucedo Mercer is a Republican who is seeking to replace incumbent Rep. Raul Grijalva in November. Saucedo Mercer immigrated from Mexico and became a naturalized citizen on July 3, 1991. She gained international attention in April of 2010 when she confronted the Tucson City Council during a public hearing on suing the state of Arizona regarding implementation of SB1070. Saucedo Mercer delivered spirited commentary (see video link below) in defense of the state’s new law and became the voice for millions who have chosen to make America their home, and who did so legally.
