Rep. Gosar Hosts “Stop the Tax Hike Roundtable”
Local Casa Grande Leaders Share Their Concerns about Tax Burdens
Casa Grande, A.Z. – On Monday, August 6th, U.S. Congressman Paul A. Gosar (R-AZ) hosted a “Stop the Tax Hike Roundtable” in Casa Grande to hear from local business owners, managers and the public on how current tax policy and future tax increases are hindering employment opportunities, limiting long-term budget planning and dragging the economy down.
“Local business owners and managers work very hard to build and grow their own businesses,” said Congressman Gosar. “Washington’s current tax policy and looming tax increase set for January 2013 create uncertainty and threaten prosperity for both our local community and the nation. However as this roundtable has shown, Arizona’s entrepreneurs and small business owners are determined to find solutions to the red tape and excessive taxes that are holding our economy back. Over-regulation and taxation should not be the deal breaker when it comes to running a successful business.”
With over twenty local business owners and the public in attendance, roundtable participants shared their stories about how burdensome taxes and strict regulations were harming their ability to succeed.
With respect to higher taxes, Jim Rhodes of Central Arizona College said, “The basic question we are going to have to answer by the end of the day is, are we better able to make decisions on how to spend that money than the government?”
Addressing the detrimental effects of the Death Tax, Rodney Shedd of RAT Farms said, “In 1990 my Grandfather passed away and shortly after my grandmother passed away. As a result of the Death Tax they had to sell their cattle operation off in order to pay it. That’s a business that we lost in the family. We used to run a feedlot and it’s gone now.”
As a small business owner, Congressman Gosar is a strong advocate for comprehensive tax reform. The Congressman thanks Big House Café of Casa Grande for providing the venue for the event. He will be hosting another “Stop the Tax Hike Roundtable” in Payson on August 8th. For details, please click here.
