SPEAKER TOBIN DECIDES AGAINST CONGRESSIONAL RUN
Speaker of the House Andy Tobin (R-Dist. 1)
STATE CAPITOL, PHOENIX (May 7, 2012) – Speaker of the Arizona House of Representatives, Andy Tobin, officially announced today that he is not running for Congress. Instead, he plans to run for re-election to the State House of Representatives and will ask his colleagues to re-elect him as Speaker.
Speaker Tobin issued the following statement:
“After serious consideration, I have decided that I can best serve our state and country by continuing my work in the Arizona House of Representatives. I have been genuinely honored by the outreach and encouragement I received as I weighed this decision. In the end, I realized there was much unfinished business in state government. I feel compelled to finish the job I started.
We are coming back from our worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. While Arizona’s fiscal health has improved dramatically over the past two years, there is still much that needs to be done. I intend to continue my work here at home as Speaker of the House. I have a longer term vision for moving Arizona forward. This vision begins with working to ensure that Mitt Romney is elected as our next President, working to strengthen the Republican majority in the Arizona House and continuing my efforts to help Arizona prosper as we move toward a brighter economic future.”
