ATM devices lifting card data, Scottsale residents warned

Scottsdale police are asking residents to pay attention to all ATMs they use after skimmers designed to retrieve data from bank cards were discovered on machines at Scottsdale banks.

Two ATMs located at Bank of America branches near 7000 E. Shea Blvd., and 6500 N. Scottsdale Road were determined to have skimmers attached to them Thursday.

One of the skimmers was located by an ATM technician, and one was found by a customer who reported his findings to the bank, said Scottsdale police spokesman Sgt. Mark Clark.

A skimmer is a device that attaches to the card slot of an ATM machine and lifts data from the magnetic strip on the back of a credit or debit card. . . . keep reading
